Every season of the IPL will allow the team owners, the media and the management to showcase IPL Teams through every possible medium. IPL Matches will be telecasted for not just the 45 days the IPL Matches are scheduled but the images will be timeless. The schedule is such that IPL Teams will first play IPL Match against one another on home-and-away basis from there the IPL Matches and the points scored, top four IPL Teams will play the two semi-finals followed by a final IPL Match. For the Latest Season of DLF IPL 2010 the first IPL Match will be played between Team Deccan chargers and Team Kolkata Night Riders. The IPL Matches schedule is such that teams play in a round robin way this is repeated twice before the four top point scoring teams get to reach the final IPL Match. Four new Venues have been added from IPL 2010 which are Dharamsala, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Vizag. According to the Television Audience Measurement (TAM), an audience measurement firm that tracks TV viewership, a staggering 20 million people watched the DLF IPL Matches on Max during the last two seasons of IPL.

A total of 8 IPL Teams have participated in the IPL T20 in the last 2 seasons, there was a huge bidding that took place in Feb 2008 for the first Season for IPL Teams and decides upon the IPL Teams owners. Among the bidders were some of India’s richest and most powerful names, from industrialists to film stars. eg. Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Mr. Vijay Malaya, Shahrukh Khan, Preeti Zinta etc. The winning bidders of the eight franchises were announced in Feb 2008 and the total base price of the auction was US $400 million but the auction fetched around US $723.59 million.


Below are the different IPL Teams which are part of the league from the 1st Season.

  1. Kings XI Punjab: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, industrialist Ness Wadia, along with leading industrialists Karan Paul and Mohit Burman are the owners of Kings XI Punjab. They bought the team for $76 million for a period of 10 years. For IPL 2010 Kumar Sangakkara will captain Kings XI Punjab.

  2. 1) Bangalore Royal Challengers: Indian’s famous industrialist Vijay Mallya’s of UB Group is the owner of Bangalore Royal Challengers. He paid $111.6 million to own the team for 10 years. Anil Kumble is the captain of Bangalore Royal Challengers.

  3. Kolkata Knight Riders: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta are the owners of Kolkata Knight Riders. They bought the team for $75.09 million for a 10-year period. Sourav Ganguly is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2010.

  4. Mumbai Indians: Mukesh Ambani’s of Reliance Industries Limited is the owner of Mumbai Indians. He paid $111.9 million to buy the team for a period of 10 years. Sachin Tendulkar is the captain of Mumbai Indians.

  5. Deccan Chargers: Team Deccan Chargers is owned by Deccan Chronicle, a media house, Team Deccan Chargers was bought for $107 million for a 10-year period. VVS Laxman is the captain of Deccan Chargers.

  6. Chennai Super Kings: India Cements bought Chennai Super kings for US $91 million for 10 years. Team India ODI and T20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the captain of Chennai Super Kings.

  7. Rajasthan Royals: UK-based Company Emerging Media along with  Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty with Husband Raj Kundra paid $67 million to own Rajasthan Royals team for a period of 10 years. Shane Warne is both the captain and coach of Rajasthan Royals.

  8. Delhi DareDevils: The Delhi Team was bought by GMR industries for $84.0 million. This season the team will play under the captainship of Gautam Gambhir.

The 4 IPL Teams that have made to the Final IPL Match in the first two seasons are:

Chennai Super Kings, who lost the final IPL Match in the first edition to Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore who reached the second edition Final IPL Match and almost lifted the cup lost the match to Deccan Charges.

It remains to be seen which team is able to win most no. of IPL Matches in this edition of the IPL, looking at the first two seasons, and the IPL Matches played so far, it is difficult to predict the teams that will reach the Final IPL Match this time. One this is for sure, it will be am amazing roller coaster ride for a whole month and a half.
