The Indian Premier League also known as IPL T 20 is a T20 cricket sporting event designed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and by Mr. Lalit Modi the Chairman & Commissioner of IPL T 20. The governing council of Indian Premier League is a 14 member body which includes Mr Lalit Modi , Mr Shashank Manohar (BCCI President), Mr Niranjan Shah (Vice-chairman), Mr. N Srinivasan, Mr. MP Pandove, Mr. Sanjay Jagdale, Mr Arun Jaitley, Mr chirayu Amin, Mr Inderjit Singh Bindra, Mr. Rajeev shukla, Mr. Farooq Abdullah, Mr. Ravi shastri, Mr. Sunil Gavaskar and Mr. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
The concept of club competition was started way back in the nineteenth century by the various European football leagues like the English Premier League, the Spanish Liga, where the team names are based on the name of the cities they are from, Teams travel to each other’s venues to play the matches. The same concept has been beautifully adapted to give us the DLF IPL T 20, where again the various IPL T 20 team names are based on the name of the Indian cities and IPL T 20 teams travel to each other’s venues to play the matches so there is equal home and away matches for both sides. Each IPL T 20 team in the Indian Premier League is allowed to have 4 foreign players and 7 domestic players in the playing 11. This not only makes the game more interesting for the viewing audience but also gives chance to the new/budding domestic players to prove their ability and gain invaluable experience by playing with the international and well established star players. A total of 8 teams have participated in the Indian Premier League in the last 2 seasons there was a huge bidding that took place in Feb 2008 for the first season of Indian Premier League. Among the bidders were some of India’s richest and most powerful names, from industrialists to film stars.
